The Principal Silicon RFIC design engineer is a senior position at Spirit Semiconductor. This position is expected to take a design lead role for Spirit’s RFIC products for 5G basestation applications. The role requires close teamwork with the rest of the Spirit team to ensure alignment of small-signal RFIC silicon design activity with the business needs. As well as driving design activity the role is also responsible for considering all aspects of product development such as semiconductor and packaging technology selection, tool sets, close liaison with systems, verification and product engineering functions, and will provide technical leadership and mentoring to the design team. This position reports to the Design Director and is located at 1210 Arlington Business Park, Theale, RG7 4TY. Occasional travel may be required.
This position has responsibility for:
- Working as lead design engineer on silicon RFIC development projects. Primarily responsible for product specification compliance whilst ensuring that product development methodologies are met, the design tasks are defined, resourced and scheduled from initial specification through design validation on the bench.
- Supporting other product development activity such as test development and qualification.
- Assisting with hiring, developing and mentoring the silicon design team, including defining job duties, setting and reviewing performance targets, monitoring training requirements and employee development.
- Identification and extraction of IP from design activity that is suitable for patenting.
- Assisting in the development of technology roadmaps including semiconductors and packaging.
- Working with external contract design when necessary to define and review tasks.
About you
You should be capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and have a strong team ethic. You should have the following educational background and skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- 12+ years of experience years of experience working in the semiconductor industry.
- Experience designing silicon RFIC products using silicon bulk and SOI technology.
- Experience designing blocks such as LNAs, RF switches, gain-controlled amplifiers, driver amplifiers in 1GHz to 10GHz frequency bands. Experience designing phase and amplitude controllers is a bonus.
- Proven commercial experience through high volume manufacture of designs.
